2 States is a 2014 Indian romantic comedy film[4] co written and directed by Abhishek Varman based on the 2009 novel of the same name written by Chetan Bhagat. It is produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala.[5] The film stars Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in lead roles.[6][7] The film was released on 18 April 2014.[8]

Plot
Krish Malhotra (Arjun Kapoor), a fresh Engineer from IIT Delhi, now a student pursuing his MBA at the IIM Ahmedabad, Gujarat, comes from a troubled,rich family of Punjabi heritage. He meets his classmate Ananya Swaminathan (Alia Bhatt), a BBA holder, in his college who comes from a conservative Tamil Brahmin family. Krish and Ananya, initially quarrel, but soon become friends and start studying together. Soon they begin dating, and stay together for their next 22 months on the IIM campus. Krish confides in Ananya that his real passion is writing, which he wants to pursue a career in. They both have become so close to each other and also have developed sexual relationship many times during the stay in IIM. Krish gets selected in the campus drives for Yes Bank. He immeditely rushes to the next room and proposes to Ananya, in the middle of her interview. She accepts, and then gets selected for Sunsilk.

When they complete their graduation, Krish and Ananya decide to get married. They introduce their parents to each other at the convocation ceremony. To their dismay, Krish's loud mother Kavita (Amrita Singh) does not get along with Ananya's reserved Tamilian parents Radha (Revathy) and Swaminathan (Shiv Kumar Subramaniam). After graduation, Ananya begins her marketing job in her hometown Chennai and Krish goes back to his own hometown Delhi, with the choice of work place in his own hands. Krish's brash family urges him to stay in Delhi and try to discourage him from his interest in writing. They also criticize his relationship with Ananya, and tell him to get into an arranged marriage with a Punjabi girl. It is also evident that there is tension between Krish and his rich alcoholic father Vikram (Ronit Roy).

Krish leaves his dysfunctional family and starts his banking job in Chennai. During this time, he tries very hard to win over Ananya's family. He tutors her younger brother for IIT entrance exams, gets her mother an opportunity to sing at an event for his workplace, and helps her father create his first PowerPoint presentation. After all his effort, Ananya's family agrees to the marriage with Krish. Krish and Ananya then travel to Delhi to win over Krish's family. Initially, Kavita and her family are hostile towards Ananya but come to like her after she saves Krish's cousin's wedding from being cancelled due to a dispute over dowry, she is also accepted.

Krish and Ananya decide to take a vacation with their families before the wedding. The vacation does not go as planned when Kavita makes continuous snide remarks about Tamilian culture. Furthermore, Ananya and her parents overhear Krish falsely assuring his mother that she can treat Ananya however she wants after they are married. Having had enough of the insults, Ananya calls off the wedding and both return to their respective hometown.

Krish and Ananya find it hard to live without each other. Sometime later, he gets a call from Ananya, who reveals that Krish's father had come down to Chennai to speak to her parents, apologizing for his wife's shallow behavior. This allows for Krish and Ananya to finally get happily married, they become parents to twin boys and Krish resigns from banking and, publishes his book 2 States based on his and Ananya's life.

Production
Casting
The first choice for the lead pair in the film had been Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra and the film was to be directed by Siddharth Anand.[11] Later, it was announced that Shah Rukh Khan and Asin Thottumkal would play lead roles and the film was to be directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.[12] The role of Krish Malhotra was also offered to Imran Khan who instead chose to work on Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola.[13] Finally, Arjun Kapoor was cast as the lead.[14] Actress Alia Bhatt was paired opposite him. Amrita Singh and Ronit Roy were cast as Arjun Kapoor's parents and Revathy and Shiv Kumar Subramaniam were cast as Alia Bhatt's parents.

Filming
Principal photography commenced on 29 January 2013 with the shooting of a song.[15] Parts of the film were shot at Chennai, Delhi, IIM-A and Gol Limda Bhajiya House near Astodia Darwaza, Ahmedabad Railway Station to Police commissioner office in Ahmedabad in August 2013.[16][17] Alia would be sporting an Indian Fusion look in the film and her costumes have been designed by Manish Malhotra.[18] Speaking about her character, Alia said that she is a City Girl who speaks Tamil only with her parents.[19] It was given an U/A certificate.

The song "Offo" was choreographed and conceptualized by Remo D'Souza as a celebration of several Indian festivals in a time lapse of almost one year. It was shot over four days at IIM Ahmedabad campus and Filmistan Studio in Mumbai.[20]

Grand Masti (English: Grand Fun) also referred to as Masti 2 is a Bollywood sex-comedy film directed by Indra Kumar and produced by Ashok Thakeria. The film is a sequel to the 2004 film Masti, and the second installment of Masti film series. It features Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani reprising their roles from the original, yet the film does not continue and is a new installment. The film also stars Bruna Abdullah, Karishma Tanna, Sonalee Kulkarni, Kainaat Arora, Maryam Zakaria and Manjari Fadnis.[3] Grand Masti released on 13 September 2013.[4]

The film received largely negative responses from critics because of its extreme sexual nature, but it was a box office success. Grand Masti is the highest grossing Bollywood film with an A (Adults Only) certificate in India,[5][6][7] subsequently entering Bollywood's 100 crore club.[8][9][10][11] The film was declared a Super Hit in India by Box Office India.[12][13]

Its sequel and third installment of Masti film series, Great Grand Masti was released on 15 July 2016.[14]


Plot
Three friends – Meet (Vivek Oberoi), Prem (Aftab Shivdasani) and Amar (Ritesh Deshmukh) – are married and don't like their wives. Meet thinks his wife Unatti (Karishma Tanna) is having an affair with her boss, Prem doesn't like it when his wife Tulsi (Manjari Fadnis) doesn't spend quality time with him and Amar hates his marital life because his wife Mamta (Sonalee Kulkarni) is more concerned about their son, Pappu.

One day, the men receive an invite from their college, SLUTS (Sri Lalchand University of Technology and Science), to attend their college reunion. Their wives don't come with them, so the three decide to have Grand Masti there to escape their boredom.

When they arrive, they see the women fully clothed and the men too afraid to express their love for them. This all due to the fear of Principal Robert (Pradeep Rawat), who hangs people naked on a tree if they disagree with his rules. They find out that their former student, Hardik (Suresh Menon), is in a mental asylum because of the principal. Meanwhile, Prem meets one of his former teachers, Rose (Maryam Zakaria), and is attracted to her. Meet meets Marlow (Kainaat Arora) and is attracted to her. Amar meets Mary (Bruna Abdullah) and is attracted to her. The men then goes to the women's place to have sex with them. But just when they were about to do it, they find out that Rose, Mary and Marlow are relatives of the principal. The principal chases them down thinking they had sex, but they get away as their wives come to spend time with them.

The trio then get an MMS showing them the footage of them having sex. Luckily, the video doesn't meet the eyes of their wives. They find out that it was Hardik who sent them the video, and he blackmails them. Their task is to kill the principal to fulfill Hardik's revenge. They fail in killing him, so they decide to try to delete the videos off Hardik's phone. They succeed and continue to spend time at the reunion.

It's the last day, and the vengeful principal has put pills inside the soup which attract people to the ones they love. The trio end up being with the girls, and the principal catches them red handed. The girls then reveal that the principal is impotent. The three get chased by the principal along with the attracted girls. When the trio end up on the roof of a building, Hardik pushes the principal and the principal slides down the roof and hangs on to a bar. The trio try to save him but Hardik pushes them, too, and they hang on to the principal. The girls come and push Hardik off the roof and he hangs on to Meet. The three tell principal the truth about not having sex with Marlow, Mary and Rose. The girls try to make a rope out of their clothes, but the boys fall and end up in the hospital.

Their wives angrily ask them what exactly happened that night. Principal Roberts calmly replies that due to a misunderstood affair, their husbands suffered this consequence. Shortly later, a doctor comes and informs the principal that he is no more impotent since the blood now properly flows all over his body due to the pressure generated while hanging on the bar. Hardik marries Marlow. The film ends up Roberts, Hardik and the trio about to have sex with their respective wives with everything now going well.

Production
The production of the film was to begin in the first week of August 2012, but due to actor Riteish Deshmukh's father Vilasrao Deshmukh's critical health condition, the film's commencement was put off by a few days.[15] Says a source close to the project, "Grand Masti, the sequel to Masti has been in the writing process for the last one and a half years. Finally, writers Milap Zaveri and Tushar Hiranandani cracked an idea and scripted the sequel. The film brings back the Riteish Deshmukh-Aftab Shivdasani-Vivek Oberoi trio, along with four new girls. Grand Masti was supposed to kick start this week. Then, Ritesh's father fell ill. He can't be expected to act funny at a time like this."

A suggestion that the film take off without Riteish was also put forward. However, producer Ashok Thakeria and director Indra Kumar refused, arguing that a comedy is a happy occasion and therefore all the actors needed to be comfortable. Reportedly, the film then started filming on 9 September 2012. The film's original release date was put between 31 July-late August 2013.[16]

According to the print version of Hindustan Times (dated 18 July 2013), Grand Masti (Masti 2) was set to release on 13 September 2013. The first official theatrical trailer was uploaded on the official YouTube channel on 18 July 2013. The stadium scene was shot in DY Patil Stadium apparently.[17]

Parts of Grand Masti was shot at the Laxmi Vilas Palace, Vadodara, in Gujarat.[18]

Release

Grand Masti was made at a budget of ₹310 million, including the production cost of 190 million and the remaining 120 million for Print & marketing.[1][19][20][21][22] Grand Masti was submitted to the censor board three months ahead of its release date in June 2013.[23] The film was not released in the UAE.[24] Grand Masti was released huge on 13 September 2013 across approximately 2100 screens in India.[12][25]
